What is the objective of a fire risk assessment?

In line with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Fire Risk Assessments aim to:

  • Identify potential ignition sources and fire hazards.
  • Identify individuals at risk.
  • Determine the type and quantity of fire extinguishers necessary for your premises.
  • Assess, eliminate, or minimize the risk of potential fire hazards as far as reasonably practicable.

Your fire risk assessment will help outline your fire safety measures, management policies, and emergency protocols to ensure building safety during a fire event.

Transparent advice, competitive pricing, and compliance

If your building is constructed and maintained according to building regulations and is deemed normal risk or lower, a fire risk assessment can typically be straightforward and economical.

Nevertheless, additional guidance and measures may be necessary based on factors such as size, occupancy, or specific risks associated with your premises.

Regardless of your building type, our certified fire technicians can assist you with:

  • Conducting comprehensive and thorough fire risk assessments.
  • Offering clear advice and suggestions to help reduce fire risks.
  • Providing competitive cost analysis.
  • Ensuring compliance with The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
  • Creating a customized emergency protocol.

Your Legal Obligations

According to the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the owner, manager, or responsible person of any non-domestic premises must:

  • Conduct regular fire risk assessments.
  • Mitigate or eliminate fire risks.
  • Identify individuals at risk.

Your fire risk assessment must be performed by a certified professional to ensure adherence to the latest health and safety regulations. During the assessment, our fire technician will evaluate your workplace and building layout, including all non-domestic areas accessible to employees or relevant persons, and provide you with a comprehensive report.

Where Should Fire Extinguishers Be Placed?

As part of your fire safety measures, fire extinguishers should generally be located:

  • At 'Fire Points' – i.e., escape routes on all floors.
  • Within easy reach – near doors leading to safety or near specific fire risks.
  • In clear and visible positions – not behind doors or inside cabinets.
  • At an appropriate height – ensuring the carrying handle is 1 meter from the floor for extinguishers over 4 kg and 1.5 meters for smaller units.
